Former Azam FC defender Nicholas Wadada set for Vipers SC exit

Right back Nicholas Wadada is expected to leave Vipers SC at the end of the current campaign, with indications suggesting the two parties are unlikely to continue beyond this season.

Wadada returned to the Kitende-based side in July 2024 after signing a two-year deal with the seven-time Uganda Premier League champions.

However, despite the expectations surrounding his comeback, the former Azam FC fullback has struggled for regular playing time during the ongoing season.

Journey with Azam FC

The veteran defender previously enjoyed a successful spell in Tanzania after leaving Vipers in 2018 to join Azam FC, where he established himself as one of the league’s standout performers.

His impressive displays saw him nominated for the Tanzania Premier League Most Valuable Player award in 2020, an unusual achievement for a defender, although he narrowly lost out to Simba SC star Clatous Chama.

That same season, Wadada was recognised as the league’s Best Defender following a string of commanding performances for Azam FC.

After four successful years at Azam, the right back switched to Ihefu FC in 2022 on a short-term contract before later moving to Singida in June 2023, continuing his professional journey in Tanzania.

Despite limited minutes this season, Wadada still played a role as Vipers lifted a domestic double last campaign and now remain firmly in contention for more silverware.

The Venoms currently sit top of the Uganda Premier League standings and have also reached the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
