Both Premier League clubs have released official statements confirming the incident, which occurred at Goodison Park during the thrilling 3-3 draw. An Everton supporter has since been arrested in connection with the incident as authorities move swiftly to address the matter.
“Manchester City strongly condemns the racist abuse directed towards Antoine Semenyo at yesterday’s [Monday’s] match,” reads the statement issued on Tuesday, 5 May 2026. “We welcome the swift action taken by Everton and the police to identify the individual responsible.”
This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and must have consequences.

The targeted racist attacks also extended to Manchester City defender Marc Guéhi, according to the reigning champions.
“We are also incredibly disappointed to hear that Marc Guéhi was subject to a series of vile racist social media posts last night. We will continue to offer our full support to both Antoine and Marc and never accept discrimination of any kind in our game,” the club’s statement further added.
While the specific catalysts for the abuse remain inexcusable and unclear, the vitriol aimed at Guéhi followed a costly error. The defender was at fault for one of the goals the visitors conceded after he played a heavy back-pass, which the hosts intercepted to score.
The dropped points at Goodison Park mean that the title race is no longer in the hands of Pep Guardiola’s men with just four games remaining in the season.
The result puts league leaders Arsenal FC in the driving seat; the Gunners can now wrap up the Premier League championship if they secure maximum points from their final three fixtures.
