The Lions of Teranga are in Group I against two-time world champions France, Iraq, and Norway. Morocco, who are hoping to build on their remarkable 2022 FIFA World Cup outing, are drawn in Group C alongside five-time champions Brazil, Haiti, and Scotland.

The former German international told Flashscore that Senegal relies on a team effort rather than individual brilliance. “It is not just about individuals; the unity in that team is special,” he said.

Asamoah, 47, was born in Ghana but represented Germany at two World Cups in 2002 and 2006, where he earned runner-up and third-place finish medals. The former striker suggested that Senegal will have a better performance alongside Morocco.

“Players like Kalidou Koulibaly have been key, and even though it’s unclear how long some of their stars will remain, that spirit keeps them competitive. Morocco also have a very strong team, but if I had to pick one African side that could surprise again, I would go with Senegal.”

Asamoah spent most of his career in the Bundesliga with Schalke 04. He has won two DFB-Pokal cups.
