After reviewing the incidents, considering the player’s defence, and receiving clarification from the club’s General Manager, the investigation found no evidence linking Obasogie to match-fixing.
Obasogie has now been reinstated and is free to resume his duties with Othmen Najjar’s side. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old has apologised for the circumstances that led to the suspicions and pledged to address the shortcomings identified in his performances to regain the confidence of supporters and stakeholders.
Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars last year after leaving Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema.
Tanzania Mainland Premier League side Black Stars SC have officially cleared goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of alleged match-fixing after completing an internal investigation into the matter.
The club confirmed that there was no evidence linking the Nigerian international to any wrongdoing following a detailed review of several matches that had raised concerns earlier in the season.
The decision brings relief to both the player and the club, ending weeks of speculation surrounding the goalkeeper’s performances.
The controversy began in February when Black Stars temporarily suspended Obasogie after concerns were raised about his performances in a number of matches.
The games under review included a CAF Confederation Cup fixture against Flambeau du Centre as well as two NBC Premier League matches against Pamba Jiji FC and Namungo FC.
Following those performances, the club launched an internal review to determine whether there was any basis to the allegations.
During the investigation period, the goalkeeper remained suspended while club officials gathered information and analyzed the situations that had raised suspicion.
After completing the investigation, Black Stars confirmed that the review did not uncover any evidence suggesting that the goalkeeper had been involved in match-fixing.
The club stated that the investigation process involved reviewing match incidents, analyzing the player’s explanation, and receiving clarification from senior club officials including the General Manager.
According to the findings, none of the concerns raised during the initial review were sufficient to link the Nigerian goalkeeper to any form of manipulation of match results.
As a result, the club decided to clear the player of all allegations and restore his place in the squad.
Following the outcome of the investigation, Black Stars announced that Obasogie has been fully reinstated and is now free to resume his duties with the team.
The goalkeeper is expected to rejoin training sessions under head coach Othmen Najjar and compete again for a place in the starting lineup.
The decision is seen as an important step toward restoring stability within the team, which had faced questions and scrutiny during the investigation period.
For Black Stars, resolving the situation quickly was essential to ensure focus remains on their performances in the Tanzanian Mainland Premier League and other competitions.
Although the investigation cleared him of wrongdoing, the goalkeeper issued an apology regarding the circumstances that led to the suspicions.
The 26-year-old acknowledged that some aspects of his performances had raised concerns and pledged to improve moving forward.
Obasogie expressed his commitment to regaining the trust of Black Stars supporters and club officials.
He also promised to work harder in training and focus on improving his consistency in goal.
Obasogie joined Black Stars last year after leaving Ethiopian club Fasil Kenema.
Since arriving at the Tanzanian club, the Nigerian goalkeeper has been part of the squad competing in domestic competitions as well as continental tournaments such as the CAF Confederation Cup.
The move to Black Stars represented an important step in the player’s professional career as he continued to build experience across different African leagues.
With the investigation now concluded, Singida can return their full attention to football matters on the pitch.
The club will be hoping that the resolution of the situation allows the team to focus on improving results in the league and strengthening their position in the standings.
For Obasogie, the priority will be to rebuild confidence and deliver strong performances when called upon.
The goalkeeper now has an opportunity to prove his value to Singida and demonstrate the qualities that earned him the move to the Tanzanian club.
As the season continues, both the player and Singida will be eager to move past the controversy and concentrate on achieving their sporting objectives.
