Status quo remains in Tunisia Ligue 1 following wins for Espérance and Club Africain

Dominant victories for main Tunisia Ligue 1 Professionnelle title contenders Espérance de Tunis (EST) and Club Africain (CA) left the top of the league table unchanged on Sunday.

Current leaders and reigning champions EST took the lead just before halftime and did not look back with a strong second half performance to defeat Olympique Béja 3-0.

Burkinabé forward Jack Diarra received a low cross from strike partner Florian Danho before his shot went just beyond the goal line after hitting the crossbar. Kouceila Boualia and Achref Jabri scored in the second half to finish off the victory, allowing EST to maintain their two-point lead at the top of the table.

The Blood and Gold will have one more league match next Saturday against AS Marsa before preparing for Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals, where EST will host the first leg on March 15 before the second leg in Egypt on March 21.

CA extended their unbeaten streak to fifteen matches with a 5-0 thrashing of mid-table side ES Métlaoui.

League top scorer Firas Chaouat was among the goal getters for CA, who continue to keep pace with the defending champions and have the advantage of not being involved in continental competition this season.

CA will travel to face US Ben Guerdane next Saturday before some time off ahead of their Coupe de Tunisie clash against US Monastir.

The league has now completed twenty-two rounds with eight remaining.
