Tunisia national team left back Ali Abdi acknowledged that the 2-0 defeat to Morocco has had a psychological effect on the Carthage Eagles. The North African derby ended in favor of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations hosts.
Speaking to the press after the defeat, the French-based player stated that the loss hurt. “Of course, a defeat in a match of this caliber affects morale. We approached the match with the goal of winning, but certain details made the difference.”
A defensive positioning error handed the Atlas Lions the first goal after Tunisia squandered a good chance at the other end. Abdi did not hold back as he blamed the refereeing in the encounter. A similar sentiment was expressed by former Tunisian striker and current national team technical director Ziad Jaziri: “It was an intense match, but the refereeing, in my opinion, influenced its course.”
The OGC Nice defender added that Tunisia will bounce back after the defeat, but errors need to be rectified. “The coaching staff must learn from this match and work harder to correct the weaknesses observed in our game. I remain optimistic about the future. We will do everything we can to be ready for the next friendly match, scheduled for Monday.”
Tunisia will tackle the Central African Republic on Monday. Before CAR, this game was proposed against Guinea and Zambia but both matches failed to materialize.
