Tunisia: Espérance return to action with dominant victory

Espérance de Tunis continue to set the pace in Tunisia’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle after returning from a month and a half break with a 4-0 league victory over US Ben Guerdane on Saturday.

Yan Sasse assisted the first goal from Houssem Tka before providing a goal himself in the victory. It was a comprehensive win for the Blood and Gold, who move three points ahead of title rivals Club Africain with the result. The Tunisian top flight is now officially at the halfway point.

Tka initiated and finished the opening goal in the 32nd minute by passing to Sasse, who laid a return pass into the path of the midfielder to fire in from twenty yards out. More fluid team passing set up Sasse to score the second soon after halftime with a low finish.

Kouceila Boualia added the third goal soon after the hour mark before youth academy product Arkem Taboubi scored his first professional goal in the final minutes. Notably, former Tunisia national team legend Youssef Msakni came on as a substitute for his first appearance with EST since re-joining the club in mid-November.

The league will continue with its 16th round next Thursday through Saturday. Espérance will host bottom side AS Gabes while Club African travel to face AS Marsa.
