The Tanzania U-17 national team produced another outstanding performance at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (U17 AFCON) in Morocco after defeating Angola 3-0 to secure a place in the quarterfinals and qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup.

The Group C encounter, played at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, saw the young Taifa Stars continue their perfect start to the tournament following their opening 3-0 victory over Mozambique.

With two wins from two matches, Tanzania now sit comfortably at the top of the group with six points, six goals scored and none conceded, underlining their status as one of the tournament’s most impressive teams so far.

The Serengeti Boys once again displayed confidence, attacking quality and tactical discipline against an Angola side that struggled to cope with Tanzania’s pace and pressing throughout the match.

Tanzania controlled large periods of the game and looked dangerous every time they moved forward.

The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Razaki Mbegelendi reacted quickly inside the penalty area following hesitation in the Angolan defence. The forward remained calm and slotted home to hand Tanzania a deserved lead.

The goal shifted momentum completely in Tanzania’s favour as Angola began to lose possession frequently under pressure from the East African side.

The Serengeti Boys continued dominating after halftime and doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute through Hasan Kizinga, who finished off a well-worked attacking move after Tanzania sliced open the Angolan defence with quick passing.

With Angola forced to push forward in search of a comeback, more spaces opened up for Tanzania on the counterattack.

Hussen Saddam then sealed the emphatic victory in the 67th minute with a superb direct free-kick that left the Angolan goalkeeper with no chance.

The goal capped another polished and mature performance from the CECAFA representatives, who have quickly emerged as one of the most exciting attacking teams in the competition.

Beyond reaching the quarter-finals, the victory also secured the Serengeti Boys a historic place at the FIFA U17 World Cup later this year a major achievement for the country’s youth football development.

The qualification marks a significant milestone for Tanzania, which had previously struggled to move beyond the group stage in past editions of the tournament.

Now filled with confidence and momentum, Serengeti Boys will head into their final group stage match knowing they have already made history while continuing to dream of going even further in Morocco.

Their impressive performances have also raised hopes among Tanzanian football fans that this talented generation can establish the country as a rising force in African youth football.
