UEFA Champions League: Hakimi assists PSG superstar Kvaratskhelia in thrilling semifinal first leg win

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was the star for Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League semifinals but plenty of work remains after an enthralling 5-4 first leg victory over Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

Harry Kane’s 17th minute penalty kick put the visitors ahead, setting off an entertaining spectacle that featured plenty of goals for the worldwide audience. Kvaratskhelia responded seven minutes later before João Neves put the hosts in the lead, only to see the teams exchange goals once again to leave PSG with a 3-2 halftime lead.

Second half adds more to UEFA Champions League classic

Achraf Hakimi made his goal contribution in the 56th minute when the Moroccan got free on the right wing for a low cross that found its way to Georgian superstar Kvaratskhelia, who finished low past Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer. Hakimi now has 4 goals and 9 assists in 37 appearances from all competitions this season.

When Ousmane Dembélé completed his brace less than two minutes later to make it 5-2, it appeared that the reigning European club champions would enjoy a substantial advantage heading into the second leg in Munich.

But the Bavarian giants responded with an important double blow of their own for one final twist. Dayot Upamecano nodded in a corner kick in the 65th minute before Luis Díaz got behind the defense and produced a composed finish that was initially ruled out for offsides. However, the visitors celebrated after VAR correctly overturned the decision to award the goal.

Two European giants are set for an eventful second leg at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday.
