Uganda Premier League: Resilient URA FC fight back twice to hold Maroons

URA FC showed character under the floodlights at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, coming from behind twice to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Maroons FC in Tuesday’s Matchday 26 clash of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The visitors struck first in the 22nd minute when Ivan Mayanja rose highest to nod home Brian Nkuubi’s well delivered free kick.

But URA FC wasted little time in finding a response, drawing level just three minutes later through Bruno Bunyaga, who finished off Disan Galiwango’s inviting cross to restore parity before the break.

Maroons came out strongly after halftime and nearly regained the lead early in the second period, only for Ronald Otti to produce a crucial goal-line clearance to Dickson Niwamanya.

Their persistence eventually paid off on the hour mark when Darius Ojok marked his return with a stunning long-range effort to put Maroons ahead once again.

However, his comeback appearance was short-lived as he was substituted moments later for Rogers Kiwanuka, with the technical team carefully managing his fitness after injury.

URA FC, however, refused to back down. Former Maroons forward Fred Amaku came back to haunt his old side, striking with 20 minutes left on the clock to level matters and ensure the contest ended all square mirroring the goalless stalemate from the reverse fixture.

The result leaves URA FC still searching for a win in their last six league outings, sitting 11th on the table with 25 points.

Maroons FC, meanwhile, climb to eighth with 34 points, edging BUL FC on goal difference despite being level on points and head-to-head.

Looking ahead, Maroons will face KCCA FC on May 7, while URA FC are set for a tricky trip to Kitende where they will take on Vipers SC the following day.
