UPL: Kitara FC go top temporarily as Orit brace fires BUL to vital away win

Matchday 18 of the Uganda Premier League served up defining moments at Royals Park Butema and Kira Road Arena on Tuesday, as Kitara FC and BUL FC secured important victories to boost their respective campaigns.

Kitara FC 2-0 UPPC FC – Royals Park Butema

Kitara FC climbed to the top of the table temporarily with a composed 2-0 victory over UPPC FC at Royals Park, Butema.

The contest started cautiously, with limited opportunities in the opening exchanges. Both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances, and the tie remained cagey until just before the break.

In the 43rd minute, Gaddafi Wahab broke the deadlock, rising highest to head home a well-timed cross from Patrick Kaddu and give the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

UPPC made changes early in the second half in search of a response, introducing Kyeyune and Sadick and later refreshed their squad with Bunjo and Kokas entering the fray.

Despite the adjustments, the visitors found it difficult to penetrate a disciplined Kitara backline.

The decisive moment arrived in the 83rd minute when Living Kabon marked his debut after rejoining the club from URA FC in style, calmly finishing from a header to double the advantage and seal the points.

A late substitution for the visitors saw Fazil replace Ambrose as Kitara comfortably saw out the contest.

The victory lifted Kitara to 39 points from 18 matches, moving them above Vipers, who sit on 38 points from 17 games and are set to play later in the evening.

UPPC remained fifth on 34 points. Notably, it was Kitara’s second consecutive 2-0 win over the Printers at the same venue, having eliminated them from the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 by an identical scoreline just a week earlier.

Police FC 0-2 BUL FC – Kira Road Arena, Kamwokya

At Kira Road Arena, BUL FC produced a clinical second-half display to defeat Police FC 2-0 and claim maximum points on the road.

The first half was evenly balanced, with few clear opportunities for either side.

BUL were forced into an early change in the 38th minute when Innocent replaced Wagoina, but the sides went into the break deadlocked at 0-0.

The breakthrough came in the 59th minute when Ibrahim Orit found the net to give BUL the lead.

The forward was once again decisive in the closing stages, completing his brace in the 89th minute to put the result beyond doubt.

A second-half substitution saw Sowedi replace Kirya as BUL managed the game professionally to the final whistle.

The win moved BUL up to 23 points in eighth place, while Police remained sixth on 32 points after missing an opportunity to strengthen their top-half position.

Matchday 18 action is set to continue under the floodlights later in the evening, with Vipers hosting Lugazi in Kitende and NEC FC welcoming UPDF FC in Lugogo, as the title race and battle for positioning gather further momentum.
