URA FC head coach Hussein Mbalangu registered his first league victory in charge as the Tax Collectors comfortably defeated Mbarara City FC 2-0 at Hamz Stadium on Wednesday in the Startimes Uganda Premier League to bring an end to the club’s frustrating nine-match winless streak.
On a night that blended renewed hope with heavy rainfall, Mbalangu also showed bold intent by handing debuts to all four mid-season signings, Moses Waiswa, Disan Galiwango, Rahmat Ssenfuka and Derrick Kakooza, a move that paid off in style.

URA began the contest with urgency. In the 16th minute, debutant Waiswa nearly marked his first appearance with a spectacular goal, curling a well-struck free kick inches wide of the target.
Two minutes later, another new arrival combined beautifully with a familiar face.
James Begisa threaded a precise through ball to Kakooza, who controlled well inside the box, but his effort was kept out by Mbarara goalkeeper Emukule.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 35th minute. Galiwango whipped in an inviting corner from the right, and Ronald Otti rose highest to power home a commanding header, sending the home fans into celebration and giving URA a deserved lead.
Just before the break, the hosts doubled their advantage. Fred Amaku was brought down in the area, and Waiswa stepped up confidently to convert from the penalty spot in the 44th minute, capping an impressive debut performance with a goal.
URA went into halftime leading 2-0 and in firm control.
The second half resumed under a heavy downpour that eventually forced a temporary halt in the 55th minute due to an unplayable surface. After conditions improved, play resumed with URA maintaining their composure.
Mbarara pushed for a way back into the contest, but goalkeeper Kusiima produced a crucial save in the 70th minute to deny the visitors from close range and preserve the two-goal cushion.
Mbalangu made tactical adjustments as the half progressed. Aliro replaced Amaku in the 67th minute but was later cautioned for a foul. Begisa made way for Kisirikko in the 77th minute, while Ssemujju came on in stoppage time to help see out the result.
Through it all, URA’s defensive unit stood firm, with Otti delivering a commanding display at the back to cap his goal with a Man of the Match performance.
The final whistle confirmed more than just three points, it signaled a potential turning point.
The victory lifted URA to 18 points in 12th place, while Mbarara City remained 13th on 15 points.
Most importantly, it marked the beginning of a new chapter under Mbalangu, whose faith in his new signings and tactical adjustments finally yielded reward.
After nine league matches without a win, the Tax Collectors have reason to believe again.
