Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup journey has been given a potential boost by the return of winger Ernest Nuamah.
Nuamah returned to team training with French Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais for the first time in several months after recovering from a long-term ACL injury.
The 22-year-old forward suffered the injury last year, missing over fifty games with his club and national team including the conclusion to 2026 World Cup qualifying since suffering the injury in early April 2025.
A video posted by the club on Tuesday showed the players welcoming the enterprising winger after the group’s training session.

Lyon sit third on the Ligue 1 table with 57 points, level with Lille as the season draws to a close with both clubs battling for qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League. Third place would secure direct qualification to the league phase of Europe’s top club competition while the fourth place finisher will have to go through the qualifying stages.
Nuamah is expected to be reintegrated into the Lyon squad ahead of a home clash against Rennes on Sunday, May 3.
His recovery is potentially a huge boost for Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, who is touring Europe to assess players for the finals. The former Nordsjaelland winger has 18 caps with 4 goals for four-time African champions Ghana.
