Yanga resumed training with renewed focus, determined to quickly shift attention from their recent cup disappointment and channel their energy toward maintaining their league dominance.
The technical bench has prioritized correcting mistakes observed in the previous match while simultaneously rebuilding player confidence ahead of what is widely regarded as one of the most decisive fixtures of the season.
Speaking about the team’s preparations, Yanga team manager Walter Harrison emphasized the squad’s readiness and determination to bounce back strongly.
“After a tough final, we have officially started training to prepare for the NBC Premier League match against Simba on May 3. We understand it will be a very difficult game, but both the technical bench and players have put the loss behind us. Our focus now is to fight for victory in this important league match,” Harrison said.
He further reassured supporters about the squad’s condition, revealing that morale within the camp remains high and that all players are fit ahead of the encounter.
“The condition of the players is very good. Everyone is motivated, and the good thing is that we have no injuries every player is fit and ready,” he added.
As defending champions, Yanga are fully aware of the stakes involved. Harrison reiterated that the team is approaching the derby as a decisive moment in their title defense campaign.
“We are the defending champions, and we are preparing for this tough and crucial match so that we can continue our push to retain the league title this season,” he noted.
With a tight fixture schedule, Yanga have had limited time to recover, but the urgency of the derby has forced quick tactical and mental adjustments. The early start to preparations reflects the club’s determination to secure maximum points and maintain their strong position in the title race.
Heading into the derby, Yanga have been in impressive form in the NBC Premier League. The league leaders have played 19 matches, registering 14 wins and five draws while remaining unbeaten.

The five-point gap between the two sides adds further significance to the derby, as both teams remain firmly in contention for the league title. A victory for Yanga would strengthen their grip at the top, while Simba will be eager to close the gap and reignite the title race.
With pride, points, and the championship on the line, all eyes now turn to Mbweni for what promises to be another electrifying Kariakoo Derby.
