The Zambia Football Association (FAZ) has gifted a senior national football team’s KoPa jersey to Bayern Munich and German legend Bastian Schweinsteiger.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga handed over the kit printed with the legendary one-time Champions League and seven-time Bundesliga winner’s name, during his visit to Zambia as part of the UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour presented by Heineken.
The former Manchester United midfielder visited FAZ’s Football House in Lusaka on Wednesday, April 2025. Bastian Schweinsteiger is said to have wowed Zambian football enthusiasts with his public appearances alongside the UEFA Champions League trophy in Livingstone and Lusaka.
The German found familiar company at the Football House in former Köln wing-back Moses Sichone, who is now Chipolopolo’s assistant coach. Before arriving in Zambia, the former Germany midfielder stopped over in South Africa, where he reminisced about the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The tour offers football followers a rare opportunity to get up close to the coveted club football silverware. The trophy has visited Zambia, Kenya, and South Africa; the only African countries chosen for the tour.
Schweinsteiger has also travelled with the trophy to countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, PR China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.
