Zimbabwe PSL: Caps United, Dynamos FC shuffle coaching panel

Zimbabwe’s Caps United and Dynamos FC have reinforced their technical panels to gain momentum in the ongoing Castle Lager Premier League (PSL) season.

Caps United have reshuffled their coaching panel with previous head coach Lloyd Chitembwe pushed upstairs to the technical director’s role. Makepekepe will appoint a new head coach this week to join newly-hired assistant coach Ian Bakala.

Caps United president Farai Jere announced the changes on Tuesday, May 6, attributing this to poor results in the league after collecting just eight points from ten games.

“We are changing our current technical setup. We will have a new technical setup that will start this weekend. Ian Bakala will be the assistant coach in the new technical team. A new head coach will be announced on Thursday,” he told the media.

He described the Harare-based team’s former midfielder Bakala as a rising coach who won the league championship twice back home in Zambia with Lusaka Dynamos.

“Lloyd Chitembwe will remain at the club and take the position of Technical Director. Coaches will be responsible for team results, and Chitembwe will no longer sit on the bench,” Jere added.

Makepekepe are placed fourth from the foot of the 18-member Castle Lager Premier League, three points away from bottom side Triangle United.

On the other hand, Dynamos FC have hired Takesure Chinyama as striker coach, joining head coach Lloyd Chigowe’s team.

"Welcome back home! We're thrilled to have you on board as our new strikers’ coach. Your experience and expertise will be invaluable in helping our players reach their full potential. We are looking forward to working with you and achieving great things together," Dynamos' statement reads.

Dembare, as Dynamos are also called, say Chinyama’s appointment is part of a broader plan to reinforce the technical setup while maintaining stability within the squad.
