NPFL: Finidi George eyes away form to boost Rivers United title charge

Rivers United coach Finidi George has stated that the club’s away form in their remaining 2025-26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixtures will be essential to their title charge during the final stretch of the season.

The Pride of Rivers moved into the top spot on Sunday following a 1-0 win over Plateau United in Port Harcourt, opening a two-point gap ahead of Enugu Rangers International.

Finidi sets sights on away form

Speaking after his side’s victory, Finidi reflected on the performance and expressed satisfaction with the result despite limited scoring chances.

“Away from home, we have to be better. That is key and we will strategies and see how we are going to get a good result in Kano.

It was a good one, we are quite happy with the win.

It was a match where we didn’t have so many scoring chances, but that shot that went in in the first half made it happen. We didn’t suffer much; it was a game we controlled properly, not much stress at the back, but we also didn’t create too many chances.”

Rivers will travel to face Kano Pillar

Finidi emphasized the importance of these away games in consolidating their lead.

Despite reclaiming the lead, Rivers United has missed opportunities to extend its advantage, leaving the title race finely poised with only four matches remaining.

Of those fixtures, Rivers will travel to face Kano Pillars on Matchday 35 and Wikki Tourists on Matchday 37. Between those trips, the Pride of Rivers will host Abia Warriors before rounding off their campaign at home against Katsina United on the final day of the season.
