Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has hailed a complete psychological transformation within the squad following their emphatic 4-1 demolition of Magesi FC on Wednesday night.
The victory at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane marked Amakhosi’s fifth consecutive win in the Betway Premiership, a run that has seen the Soweto giants consolidate third place. With 45 points already on the board, the club has vastly eclipsed the dismal 32-point total they managed in the entirety of the previous campaign.

The current purple patch follows a dark period where Chiefs suffered four successive defeats. According to Ben Youssef, the turnaround was not down to luck, but rigorous internal reflection.
“It’s the mentality that we have now. We have had a lot of meetings together to discuss the situation,” Youssef told the media after the match against Magesi.
“We properly analyse the situation and rectify the mistakes. When you make the right analysis, and you continue like that, that’s the most important thing for us. We discussed a lot about the mentality—preparing mentally for this game because we knew it would be difficult. I am so proud of the spirit we showed on the pitch.”
A notable feature of the win in Polokwane was the clinical nature of the performance, with goals from Flavio Silva, Wandile Duba, Mduduzi Shabalala, and a maiden strike for Khanyisa Mayo.
Ben Youssef emphasised that the technical team’s philosophy revolves around the collective rather than stars.
“As I said from the beginning, we are a big squad. We are not a team that depends on one or two players. When any player is ready, he will fight,” he added.
The result sees Chiefs open a significant six-point gap over fourth-placed AmaZulu FC, putting them in pole position for a return to CAF inter-club competition. They also managed to trim the gap to second-placed Orlando Pirates to 10 points.
Amakhosi will remain in the Limpopo province this week as they prepare for a back-to-back assignment in the city. They face Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, looking to extend their winning streak to six matches.
