Left-back Evans Ogbonda turned provider inside four minutes, curling a pinpoint cross from the left for in-form Shumah to tap home from close range and give the visitors a dream start.
The goal forced Nkwazi to respond. The hosts regained rhythm and controlled the midfield through Charles Majapa Mumba and Mathews Mashimikilo, whose passing kept Willard Mwanza and the Power defence busy with a series of efforts on goal.
Dynamos nearly doubled their lead before the break. Ishmael Ankobo latched onto a Shumah pass, controlled skillfully, and unleashed a shot that was inadvertently blocked by an alert Adrian Chama.
Both coaches made halftime adjustments, with Nkwazi’s Masautso Tembo introducing fresh legs by bringing on Billy Balanganayi Ntoumba and Lameck Manda for Carlos Kaoma and Christopher Zulu.
Osward Mutapa turned to his bench to manage the game. Salulani Phiri replaced Linos Makwaza Jr at the break, while John Soko, Chifundo Mphasi, Titus Chansa and Kapembwa Musonda were all introduced later.
Ronel Manyanga, Evans Ogbonda, Moses Shumah and Daniel Adoko were the other players withdrawn as Power saw out the 1-0 win. The second half became a seesaw affair, but Power’s defence held firm to secure maximum points and extend their unbeaten run to 15 matches.
Shumah emerged as the Fans’ Man of the Match. The former Kakamega Homeboyz striker has now netted eight goals in April across all competitions, seven of them coming in the league.
He has amassed 21 league goals this season, moving within touching distance of history. Shumah currently sits just five goals shy of surpassing the long-standing 26-goal single-season record set by Winston Kalengo, with six matches still left to play.
In a post-match reaction, Dynamos assistant coach, Songwe Chalwe, said: “The boys played very well and were equal to the task to ensure we go 10 points clear. We shall continue to take games as they come till the finishing line.”
Striker Kapembwa Musonda also emphasised team spirit: “You know football is always about teamwork and acceptance. We have posted good results out of our unity and we are proud to have Shumah enjoying form and that has helped the team a lot.”
The result moved Dynamos 10 points clear at the summit of the MTN Super League, while Nkwazi remaining in mid-table after the defeat. Dynamos’ focus now turns to the ABSA Cup as they prepare to take on Mufulira Wanderers FC in a semifinal clash on Saturday.
