Moses Shumah on target again as Dynamos reach ABSA Cup semis

Kenya national team striker Moses Shumah continued his goal scoring form as Zambian side Power Dynamos delivered another important victory, defeating fellow Copperbelt side Nchanga Rangers 2-0 in the ABSA Cup quarterfinals to book a place in the semifinals on Sunday.

In a match played in Lusaka, in-form talisman Shumah opened the scoring in the 14th minute, calmly finishing from a clever lofted assist by Fredrick Mulambia to put AbaYellow ahead early in the first half.

Shumah nearly turned provider moments later when he sent an inviting cross into the box, but Nchanga Goalkeeper, Victor Chabu, produced a brilliant double save to deny Mulambia and keep the score unchanged.

Mutapa made five tactical substitutions

Nchanga Rangers responded strongly in the second half as they searched for an equaliser. Davie Zulu, Elliot Kampukesa, and Wesley Sichande all tested Lawrence Mulenga, but the Dynamos goalkeeper stood firm to register his fourth clean sheet.

Coach Osward Mutapa made five tactical substitutions to help see out the game, with Chifundo Mphasi, Linos Makwaza Jr., Ishmael Ankobo, Evans Ogbonda, and Salulani Phiri all getting a share of the action. Fredrick Mulambia, Daniel Adoko, Ronel Manyanga, Moses Shumah, and John Soko were rested as Power managed the match effectively.

Dominic Chanda sealed the victory in the 75th minute, finishing off a Prince Mumba assist to make it 2-0 and send Power into the last four. The defender’s outstanding performance earned him the SuperSport Man of the Match award.

Dynamos shift focus to league action

Mutapa’s men once again showed composure and discipline, securing another clean sheet and taking another confident step in their ABSA Cup campaign.

Speaking after the match, first assistant coach, Linos Makwaza Sr., said the team remained focused on securing the result.

“We knew Nchanga Rangers would be very tactical, and we planned to contain them in the first half. We managed to create chances and score the goals that gave us the much-needed win,” he said.

With this victory, Power Dynamos now shift their focus back to league action, where they will take on Nkwazi Football Club on Wednesday, April 22, in a rescheduled league fixture.
