Ghana has secured the hosting rights for the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations according to the Football Association president, Kurt Okraku.
Okraku confirmed in a Facebook post that the West African nation will host the youth tournament for the first time in nearly three decades.
Ghana last staged the competition, then known as the African Youth Championship in 1999.
The Black Satellites reached the finals of the tournament with Laryea Kingston’s solitary goal winning the second trophy for Ghana.
Ghana who hold a joint world record of winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup with Morocco, last won Africa youth tournament in Mauritania in 2021 under coach Karim Zito.
The right to host competition will be a feather in Ghana’s cap and as well push the nation to assemble crème de La crème of its youth set up for a bigger challenge.
Ghana is a force to reckon with when it comes to youth football, winning the continental tournament four times with one FIFA World Cup to show for.
The four African trophies came in 1995, 1999, 2009, 2021 with two-time Runner-up spots at the FIFA World Youth Championship in 1993, 2001 and finishing third in 2013.
