Pyramids FC delivered a statement performance with a commanding 3-0 victory over Al Ahly at the 30 June Stadium, in Round 4 of the Nile Egyptian League title phase.
After a balanced first half, the breakthrough came in the 70th minute through Fiston Mayele, who unleashed a strike from outside the box that deflected off an Al Ahly defender and beat goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir.
Al Ahly thought they had responded when Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet found the net following a low cross from Achraf Bencharki, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside.
Pyramids doubled their lead in the 77th minute, once again through Mayele, who capitalized on a defensive error and ran towards the goal to slot home his second of the night.
The hosts sealed the emphatic win deep into stoppage time (90+3), when Karim Hafez converted a penalty despite a strong attempt from Shobeir to keep it out.
With this result, Pyramids move up to 47 points in second place, just three points behind leaders Zamalek SC, while Al Ahly remain third on 44 points, seeing their title hopes take a major hit.
