Riga FC: Badamosi becomes Virslīga top scorer in clash between Latvian giants

Gambian striker Mohamed Badamosi moved to the top of the scoring chart on Tuesday in Latvia’s top flight Virslīga as Riga FC and hosts RFS played to an entertaining 3-3 draw in a top-of-the-table clash.

It is early in the 2026 campaign but the two clubs are the clear favorites to contend for the title and the duel lived up to high expectations. Last season, Riga FC ended a two-year spell of dominance by edging RFS by a one-point margin to win the title.

And RFS set out to send a message. A brilliant start put the hosts 2-0 up after star playmaker Jānis Ikaunieks opened the scoring, three minutes before the Latvia national team star set up Ivorian midfielder Ismaël Diomandé to double the lead.

But the visitors responded well with a goal before halftime through Renars Varslavans to gain some momentum going into the halftime break. In the 63rd minute, it was Badamosi who leveled when the giant forward applied the final touch from close range following a scramble in front of the goal.

RFS responded swiftly to restore their lead but a late equalizer from Riga playmaker Caio Ferreira left the teams level and sharing the points.

The result keeps RFS two points clear at the top of the table through nine rounds. For Badamosi, his goal continues an excellent start to life in Latvia. Joining his current club after a difficult spell in Romania, he now has eight goals in ten matches and has already captured a trophy with Riga FC’s Super Cup triumph over FK Auda in February.
