Riga FC: Mohamed Badamosi continues career revival with brace for Latvian contenders

After a difficult period in his club career, towering Gambian striker Mohamed Badamosi is gradually re-discovering his scoring touch with Riga FC by feasting on the defenses of Latvia’s top flight Virsliga.

On Tuesday, the striker scored twice in the first half as Riga overcame SK Super Nova 4-1.

The visitors encountered little resistance in Jūrmala, where they instantly asserted dominance of possession. It took less than two minutes for Badamosi to open the scoring when he loomed above the opposition defense to nod in a cross that was deflected high into the air.

In the 34th minute, the Gambian used his size to create the second goal. Riga easily cut through the Super Nova defense before Brazilian midfielder Iago Siqueira’s cross took a slight deflection to Badamosi at the far post. The striker held off a defender with his back to the goal before turning and firing in low past the goalkeeper.

A reply late in the first half from the hosts came through Ibrahima Ndiaye but an own goal quickly restored Riga’s two-goal lead. Brazilian star attacker Reginaldo Ramires put the result beyond doubt early in the second half.

Badamosi turns the page at Riga FC after difficult spell

A bit of a late bloomer who began his professional career at famed Gambian club Real de Banjul, Badamosi made his name in Morocco with Rabat club Fath Union Sport before jetting off to Belgium to begin his club career outside of Africa.

Finding the net became a struggle with KV Kortrijk but Badamosi enjoyed his best season in Europe during the 2022-23 campaign with Serbian club FK Čukarički. He scored thirteen goals in all competitions.

But subsequent loans to Belgian club Standard Liège and Saudi Pro League club Al Hazem brought more twists to the journey. A second loan to the Saudi second tier with Abha Club provided some relief during the 2024-25 season after his loan to Standard was cut short.

After signing with Romanian top flight club CFR Cluj, where he endured a brief and unproductive spell, the 27-year-old is getting the playing time he desires in Latvia. Riga are two points back of league leaders RFS after capturing last season’s title by one point.
