Namibian champions African Stars part ways with coach

Newly ordained Namibian league champions, African Stars FC, have surprisingly parted ways with head coach Agnus Elemu.

The coach has vacated his role just two weeks after guiding the Windhoek-based heavyweights to the Namibian Premier Football League (NPFL) title. The championship success also guarantees the club’s participation in the 2027 CAF Champions League.

Why African Stars let Elemu go

In an official statement, the club did not explicitly state the reasons for Elemu’s departure but chose instead to recognise his pivotal role in the successful 2025-2026 NPFL championship campaign.

“African Stars FC, hereby, announces that the club has officially parted ways with head coach Agnus Elemu,” the statement read. “We thank coach Elemu for his dedication and contribution during his time with the club and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”

While the club remains tight-lipped, his exit from the Windhoek-based giants is widely thought to be linked to their recent disappointment in the Namibia Top 8 Cup, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Eleven Arrows over the weekend.

Who is now in charge of the Namibian champions?

The former FC Ongos trainer initially joined ‘Starlile’ as an assistant coach midway through the season in November 2025. He eventually took over the mantle from his former superior, Bob Mafaso, after the latter accepted a national team appointment back home in Lesotho.

The NPFL holders have not yet confirmed who will take immediate charge of the first team. African Stars remains one of the most decorated and successful clubs in the history of the Namibian Premiership, and the search for a successor to lead them into continental football is expected to begin immediately.
