Thursday evening under the lights at MTN-Omondi Stadium will see both KCCA FC and Maroons FC desperate to rediscover winning form when they lock horns in Matchday 27 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
The hosts head into the encounter after letting victory slip away in their previous outing against league leaders Vipers SC.
KCCA looked set to secure all three points before a late strike from substitute Glodi Beyuku rescued a draw for the visitors in Lugogo.
For Maroons, frustration also defined their last match after twice surrendering the lead in a 2-2 stalemate against URA FC at Nakivubo.
Despite that disappointment, the Luzira-based side remains one of the league’s most consistent teams in recent weeks, having suffered just one defeat in their last nine matches.
The reverse fixture between the two sides ended goalless in Luzira earlier this season, but history still tilts heavily in KCCA’s favour. In the last 21 meetings, the Kasasiro Boys have managed 12 victories compared to Maroons’ three, while six matches have ended level.
A win for KCCA would lift them to 55 points and into second place on the table, narrowing the gap to leaders Vipers SC to four points. Maroons, meanwhile, can climb into eighth position with victory as they continue pushing for a top-eight finish and qualification for next season’s FUFA Super 8 tournament.
Team selection could play a huge role in Thursday’s contest.
However, there is good news for the hosts as James Mubezi returns after spending two months out with a fractured hand, while Kennedy Muserero is back in contention following an illness that sidelined him for the previous two matches.
Maroons also receive a timely boost with Raymond Walugembe, Norman Odipio, and Derrick Basoga all returning from suspension. Emmanuel Obua is the visitors’ only absentee ahead of the trip to Lugogo.
Speaking ahead of the game, KCCA co-coach Jackson Magera stressed the importance of improving in front of goal.
“We need to get back to winning ways, but most importantly, play beautiful football. We need to tuck away our chances, and we know there will not be many against a resilient Maroons side. We have worked on our finishing, and hopefully, we can replicate that on the pitch tomorrow,” he told the club media.
