Allan Okello has admitted that Young Africans Sports Club were forced to work hard for their narrow 1-0 victory over KMC FC in the NBC Premier League, despite dominating large parts of the encounter.
The Ugandan midfielder scored the only goal of the match to hand Yanga another important three points as the race for the league title continues to intensify.

Speaking after the game, Okello said Yanga started strongly and created several clear chances, especially in the opening half, but poor finishing prevented the team from taking full control of the match early on.
According to the attacking midfielder, Yanga should have entered the halftime break with a comfortable lead after the number of opportunities they created in front of goal.
“We created many chances in the first half and honestly we should have scored at least three goals before halftime,” said Okello. “We were disappointed because we played very well but failed to convert the opportunities we got.”
Okello explained that the mood inside the dressing room during the break reflected frustration among the players, who felt they had allowed KMC to remain in the contest despite Yanga’s dominance.
The second half, however, proved more difficult for the league leaders after KMC tightened their defensive structure and closed many of the spaces Yanga had been exploiting earlier in the game.
Okello noted that the tactical adjustment from KMC forced Yanga to change their approach as they searched for the breakthrough goal.
“They defended much better in the second half and it became difficult to penetrate through the middle,” he explained. “We had to try different methods including long range shots and waiting patiently for the few chances that came inside the box.”
The midfielder’s decisive strike eventually secured victory for the league leaders and kept the club firmly on course in the title race with only a few matches remaining this season.
Despite earning the match winning goal and another impressive individual performance, Okello insisted the team’s primary focus remains winning the league title rather than personal achievements.
“At this stage of the season, the most important thing is for the team to continue collecting points,” he said. “Individual awards or statistics are not our focus right now. We want to win every match and defend our championship.”
Okello also took time to praise the club’s supporters for their continued backing throughout the campaign, saying the fans play a major role in motivating the players during difficult matches.
“We always need our fans behind us because they give us strength and confidence to fight for three points every day,” he added.

The Ugandan star has been one of Yanga’s most influential players this season, both in attack and creativity. Okello currently leads the club’s assist chart with six assists, alongside Duke Abuya who also has six. They are followed by Max Nzengeli and Israel Patrick Mwenda with four assists each, while Pacôme Zouzoua has contributed three.
