A low strike from twenty yards was enough for the reigning Tanzanian club champions, who did not have it easy on Wednesday at the KMC Complex despite facing a club located at the foot of the table.
KMC did their part to make life difficult for Wananchi, who created the lion’s share of opportunities but struggled to find a way past Tanzania U-20 international goalkeeper Ismail Mpank. The hosts did well to keep their share of possession in the first half and neutralize the Young Africans attack.
The champions needed a moment of magic to claim all three points and Uganda star Okello lived up to his nickname “Star Boy”. With the KMC defense concentrated around their penalty area, Okello collected a pass from Shekhani Khamis and escaped pressure with an excellent first touch before firing low past Mpank for his third goal this season in league play.
Yanga have now done their part to stay a safe distance from rivals and second place club Simba. They will next host Coastal Union on Saturday.
Simba are currently in action for the second match of the day against a difficult opponent in JKT Tanzania. The Reds need a victory to stay within five points of the league leaders at the beginning of the final third of the league campaign.
