Al-Nassr maintain Saudi Pro League lead thanks to Mané-Ronaldo connection

Dynamic duo Sadio Mané and Cristiano Ronaldo combined for Al-Nassr’s third goal on Thursday against Al Shabab, allowing the Saudi Pro League leaders to hold off a late charge from hosts Al Shabab in a 3-2 victory.

After collecting an overhit cross in the 75th minute, Mané produced a low cross that split the defense to find the Portuguese legend for a routine finish. Up 3-1 at that point, Ali Al Bulayhi pulled a goal back but it was not enough for Shabab in their attempt at a late rally.

João Félix got the visitors off to an ideal start, with the Portuguese playmaker scoring twice in the opening ten minutes. Former Belgium national team attacker Yannick Carrasco kept Shabab in the match by cutting into the deficit on the half hour mark.

A tense opening thirty minutes kept the result in suspense for supporters of the league leaders, but Ronaldo’s 28th goal in all competitions provided some room for comfort to hold on. Deep into second half stoppage time, João Félix confirmed the victory for good with penalty kick.

Al-Nassr move five points clear of closest rivals Al Hilal, who do have an opportunity to strike a major blow when the two teams square off next Tuesday in a massive derby clash.

For his part, Mané continues to contribute regularly with 13 goals and 9 assists in all competitions this season. Next up for the leaders is full focus on the upcoming derby, where a defeat would give the upper hand back to Hilal.
