AFC Champions League 2: Mané scores as Al Nassr advance to semifinals

Sadio Mané and Saudi Pro League giants Al Nassr are through to the semifinals of the AFC Champions League 2 following Sunday’s 4-0 destruction of Emirati club Al Wasl.

The match was well over by the time the Senegalese forward went around Al Wasl goalkeeper Mohamed Ali to finish into an empty net in the 80th minute.

Despite hosting the match in Dubai, Al Wasl stood little chance against a first half onslaught from the current Saudi Pro League leaders. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Iñigo Martínez and Abdulelah Al Amri made it 3-0 by the half hour mark from assists by João Félix.

In fact, Al Wasl could only manage one shot on target throughout the ninety minutes, leaving the second half a dull affair as the favorites held on with ease. Before being substituted late on, Mané confirmed his contribution with his 13th goal in all competitions.

Heavy favorites to lift AFC Champions League 2 trophy

While the club would prefer to be competing for honors in the Champions League Elite, they are well on course to secure a long-awaited Saudi Pro League title and are heavy favorites to capture a continental title as well. They will face either Al Ahli Doha or Jordanian club Al Hussein in the final of the West region on Wednesday, also in Dubai.

The winner will face Japanese giants Gamba Osaka, the winners of the East region, in the final on May 16. If Al Nassr win the West region, they will host the final.
