Umar Sadiq returned to the scoresheet once again, netting the decisive goal in Valencia CF’s 1-0 victory over Athletic Club on Matchday 35 at San Mamés on Sunday.
Sadiq began the encounter as a substitute and was introduced in the second half, replacing Hugo Duro with 20 minutes remaining. The change proved masterstroke; the Nigerian striker found the breakthrough just two minutes after entering the fray, heading home the match-winner to secure three crucial points for Los Che.
With this victory, Valencia continues their ascent up the La Liga table, pulling further away from the relegation scrap and moving within striking distance of the European qualification spots.
Back in the goals
Prior to his recent resurgence, the former UD Almería star endured a frustrating drought, failing to find the net in seven consecutive outings against Villarreal CF, CA Osasuna, Deportivo Alavés, Real Oviedo, Sevilla, Celta de Vigo, and Elche CF.
Sadiq has now hit a rich vein of form, scoring in three of Valencia’s last four league matches with goals against RCD Mallorca, Girona FC, and now Athletic Club.
