Mighty Wanderers FC assistant coach Macdonald Mtetemera has reflected on their 1-2 loss to bitter rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in Lilongwe on Sunday, 10 May 2026.
Mtetemera has vowed that the Nomads will learn from the FDH Premiership’s uncharacteristic slip-up at Bingu National Stadium and bounce back to defend the league title.
Speaking to his team’s website, the right-hand man for head coach Bob Mpinganjira, insisted that they lost the Blantyre derby out of sheer absence of luck and not due to poor performance.
“Well, that is football—you can win, draw or lose,” said Mtetemera. “I congratulate Bullets FC for the win. They played well, and we played even much better, but luck was not on our side. We will go back to rectify our mistakes and come back stronger.”
Wanderers, who are also called the Nomads, were punished for poor finishing, with the People’s Team showing their efficiency upfront to convert their scoring opportunities through captain Blessing Mpokera and Maxwell Gastson in either half.
Substitute Promise Kamwendo pulled one back for Mpingajira’s side, which hit the post thrice in the second half.
The latest defeat sent the defending champions down the ladder to ninth position with three points from two games.
Their rivals climbed to the summit of the 16-member FDH Premiership table with seven points from three games after having played one game more than Wanderers.
The game produced three red cards. Tempers flared up as Bullets bench remonstrated against referee Mayamiko Kanjere’s decisions. In the heat of the moment, Bullets team manager Noel Kaole was shown a red card.
There was more drama as Wanderers winger Gaddie Chirwa and Bullets striker Gasten got straight marching orders after they fouled each other in an off-the-ball incident.
