Kaizer Chiefs confirm the appointment of new a CEO

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the appointment of Bheki Shongwe as the club’s new Group Chief Executive Officer, effective May 2026.

Shongwe is a familiar face at Naturena, having previously served as the club’s Managing Director between 2009 and 2012. Until this appointment, the businessman served as a non-executive director on the board while managing his private commercial interests.

In a statement released on Thursday, Amakhosi confirmed that Shongwe has been tasked with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the club and assisting Chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung in the broader management of the 56-year-old institution.

“His extensive knowledge of the organisation and its operations makes him well-suited to lead us into the future,” the club stated. “Mr Shongwe will report directly to the Chairman and the Board, while working closely with the heads of departments to ensure the club continues to thrive both on and off the field.”

The executive shake-up comes at a time of renewed optimism on the pitch. The Soweto giants are currently preparing for their penultimate Betway Premiership fixture against AmaZulu FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium this Saturday, buoyed by having secured continental football for next season.

A recent victory over Sekhukhune United mathematically guaranteed Amakhosi a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup. The result moved Amakhosi to 51 points, creating a seven-point gap over fourth-placed AmaZulu FC. With only two games remaining, Usuthu can only reach a maximum of 50 points, ensuring Chiefs finish in the top three.

The 51-point milestone also marks a significant turnaround for the Glamour Boys, securing their return to the MTN8 after missing out on the top-eight competition for the past two seasons.

Despite having already achieved their primary objective of returning to CAF competition, the club has signalled that there will be no room for complacency. Chiefs are targeting maximum points in their final fixtures against AmaZulu and Chippa United to finish the season on a high.
