Crystal Palace boss tells Sarr to be selfish

Senegal national team winger Ismaïla Sarr has revealed the biggest piece of advice his Crystal Palace FC coach Oliver Glasner gave him to improve his scoring prowess.

Sarr says the Eagles’ mentor advised him to be more decisive, clinical and selfish in opponents’ boss, something which has worked this Premiership campaign.

The youthful attacker disclosed this in an interview with English Premier League Productions while reflecting on his hugely successful season that has seen him reach 20 goals.

Sarr reflects on Crystal Palace season

“When I’ve scored, I say next time that I want to score again, to have a brace, or to help my team win. For me, all of this is because of the team. The coach also has emphasised that a lot,” he said.

“He tells me if you are in front of the goal, don’t pass, score for you. Be selfish, like they say! I’ve learnt quickly, and now I have nine goals in the Conference League–and I hope that I will be able to score a 10th one to give Crystal Palace the victory.”

Senegalese star gears up for UEFA Conference League final

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) star is gearing up for the prospect of winning continental silverware when Palace face Rayo Vallecano in the UEFA Conference League final in Germany on 24 May 2026.

“It’s possible to win this third trophy. We are going to prepare for it, as the other matches and the other finals also,” Sarr added. “It’s really important to go there and to win this trophy, because it’d be good to win it for the club, also, and everyone else.

“I would really like to win this trophy for me and for my family. You can work hard all season, but not to win anything would be hard.”

Sarr is a key member of the Teranga Lions, who are disputing the Confederation of African Football’s decision to award the 2025 AFCON trophy to Morocco following a disputed final.
