FIFA U-17 (WWC): Kenya unveil final squad to face Uganda

Kenya women’s U-17 head coach Mildred Cheche has named her final squad for the upcoming FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Uganda, with the two sides set to meet on May 22 and May 30.

The first leg will be played in Uganda at the FUFA Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 4pm, before the return leg takes place at Nyayo National Stadium on May 30 at 3pm.

Cheche has largely maintained the core of the squad that successfully navigated past Namibia in the previous round, making only three changes to the travelling team.

Defender Rose Nangila misses out

Two of the changes have been forced by injuries. Defender Rose Nangila misses out after undergoing surgery and being unable to report to camp, while Lindey Weey has also been ruled out with an injury that is expected to sideline her for two weeks.

In their place, Daisy Adongo and Grace Wangari have been drafted into the squad, with Adongo expected to provide additional defensive cover while Grace Wangari earns a place in the team to strengthen the attacking midfield options ahead of the crucial double-header.

Meanwhile, Noelina Akuku joining the squad also provides versatility in midfield with proficiency both in attacking and defensive capacities.
The Junior Starlets are expected to travel to Uganda on Tuesday, May 19, and return to the country on May 23 after the first-leg encounter.

With a place in the next qualification round at stake, Kenya will be aiming to build on the momentum from their previous performances and continue their push towards another FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup appearance.
