Golden boot, assists and clean sheets race heats up as NBC Premier League returns

The NBC Premier League resumes on Wednesday following a short break to allow the continuation of the CRDB Bank Federation Cup, with several crucial matches expected as the race for the title, survival, and individual awards intensifies across Tanzania’s top-flight football competition.

While the spotlight remains firmly on the fierce battle for the league championship, another exciting contest is unfolding among players competing for the Golden Boot, top assists, and clean sheet awards as the season heads into its decisive stages.

NBC Premier League leaders Young Africans SC currently sit at the top of the table with 54 points after 23 matches. Close behind are fierce rivals Simba S.C. with 52 points from the same number of games, setting up an intense title race in the remaining fixtures of the campaign.

Azam FC remain in contention in third place with 46 points, while Singida Black Stars occupy fourth place with 38 points after 23 matches.

What’s at Stake as NBC Premier League Action Resumes

In the race for the Golden Boot award, Feisal Salum of Azam FC currently leads the scoring charts with 11 goals. Popularly known as “Fei Toto,” the attacking midfielder has once again proven his importance to Azam this season through his consistency in front of goal.

He is followed by Prince Dube of Yanga SC with nine goals. Simba SC midfielder Clatous Chama, who has enjoyed a remarkable run of form in recent weeks, has scored eight goals. Chama recently won four consecutive Man of the Match awards and grabbed headlines with a stunning strike in the recent Kariakoo Derby against Yanga.

Simba’s Suleiman Mwalimu has also netted eight goals, alongside Fabrice Ngoy of Namungo FC.

In the assists category, Feisal Salum once again leads the standings with eight assists. Elie Mpanzu, who provided the assist for Chama’s memorable derby goal, is also tied on eight assists.

Allan Okello of Yanga has continued his impressive performances this season with seven assists, while teammate Duke Abuya has six assists. Max Nzengeli rounds off the top contributors with five assists.

The battle for the Golden Glove award in the NBC Premier League is equally competitive. Yanga goalkeeper Djigui Diarra leads with 12 clean sheets, helping his side remain defensively strong throughout the campaign. Simba goalkeeper Djibrilla Kassali follows closely with 11 clean sheets.

Other top-performing goalkeepers include Jean Noel Amonome of TRA United and Aishi Manula of Azam FC with 10 clean sheets each, while Patrick Munthali of Mashujaa FC has registered nine.

At the bottom of the table, the relegation battle remains tense. Namungo FC sit in the relegation playoff position with 24 points, while Mbeya City FC are just below with 21 points.

Tanzania Prisons SC occupy 15th place with 17 points, while KMC FC remain rooted at the bottom of the table in 16th place with just nine points after 23 matches in the NBC Premier League.
