A goal in second half stoppage time launched CS Don Bosco into contention to qualify for continental competition with Tuesday’s 1-0 Linafoot playoff victory over FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo at the Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.
David Bela Bakuayima arrived to flick a perfectly placed header from a long throw-in to give the Salesians a crucial victory in the third minute of second half stoppage time. Long known as a feeder club to Lubumbashi giants TP Mazembe, the result moves Don Bosco into third place and only two points back of leaders Mazembe.
For Lupopo, the crushing defeat is a missed opportunity to keep pace with title favorites Mazembe and Les Aigles du Congo. Les Cheminots remain in fifth place, five points back of top spot.
The playoff remains highly competitive and six teams remain in contention to qualify for CAF interclub competition next season, which will be awarded to the top-3 finishers.
Action will resume with the sixth matchday on Thursday, when TP Mazembe will clash with AS Maniema Union who are in need of a victory. Also on the same day, a Kinshasa derby will take center stage with AS Vita Club clashing against defending champions Les Aigles.
