Algeria goalkeeper suffers shoulder injury blow ahead of World Cup

Algeria international goalkeeper Anthony Mandrea has suffered a major setback after sustaining a shoulder injury during training with French club Caen on Monday, dealing a heavy blow to both player and club at a crucial stage of the season.

According to France Bleu, Mandrea dislocated his shoulder following a collision during a small-sided training session as Caen prepared for the remaining fixtures of the campaign. The injury required immediate medical attention, and the goalkeeper was rushed to Caen University Hospital for examinations.

The timing of the injury is particularly difficult, with only four rounds left in the season and Mandrea considered one of the team’s indispensable starters.

The setback could impact Mandrea’s ambitions with the Algeria national team, as the goalkeeper was close to securing a place in the Greens’ squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Medical tests in the coming hours are expected to determine the severity of the injury and provide a clearer estimate for his recovery timeline.
