Libyan Premier League recap: Al Ahli Tripoli hit seven, Asswehly chase the top

Round seven of the second half in the Libyan Premier League’s Group One delivered an action-packed night on Monday, with five matches played, including four simultaneously as part of the competition committee’s efforts to ensure sporting fairness amid the tightening battles for both the title and survival.

Al Ahli Tripoli stole the spotlight with a dominant 7-1 demolition of Abu Salim, recording the biggest win of the season so far in a stunning attacking display.

Syrian forward Pablo Al Sabbagh opened the scoring early before Pacoya doubled the lead, although the latter was forced off injured after colliding with the goalpost. Al Sabbagh then added his second from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 before Mohammed Ben Dida pulled one back for Abu Salim, leaving the halftime score at 3-1.

In the second half, substitute Ezzou Al Marimi produced a sensational hat-trick, while Isaac Yakubu also found the net to complete a ruthless performance from Al Ahli Tripoli.

The emphatic victory takes Al Ahli Tripoli to 44 points, strengthening their position at the top, while Abu Salim remain on 12 points and continue to face serious relegation danger.

Elsewhere, Asswehly showed strong form with a 3-0 home win over Al Sabah in Misrata.
