Allsvenskan: Manneh continues strong start in Mjällby thrashing of Degerfors

An uneven start to the 2026 season in Sweden’s top flight Allsvenskan has given way to a strong run of form for Mjällby AIF and Gambian forward Abdoulie Manneh, who scored as his club collected their third consecutive victory with a 4-1 result at Degerfors.

The diminutive winger used his head to put the visitors up 3-0 close to halftime, leaving the home supporters quiet and disappointed at the Stora Valla.

Reigning Allsvenskan champions waste no time or effort

Jeppe Kjær put the reigning champions ahead inside four minutes and it only got worse from there for the hosts. Veteran defender Tom Pettersson produced an athletic finish from Abdullah Iqbal’s cross on the half hour mark and then it was Manneh’s turn to get on the end of the cross from Tony Miettinen.

It was a brutally efficient victory from the champions, who stunned observers of Swedish football to capture their first-ever title last season. A run of three victories now has them in fourth place, three points back of surprise leaders IK Sirius.

Manneh, the 21-year-old whose breakthrough 2025 season played a major role in the title campaign, is continuing where he left off. He now has 2 goals and 2 assists from 7 league matches with the league still in the first third of the campaign.

Next up, the champions will set their sights on another trophy on Thursday. Hammarby await in the Svenska Cupen final, another competition that the southern Swedish club have yet to win and will be eager to capture.
