Barker: Simba ready to fight for crucial three points

Simba SC head coach Steve Barker has stressed the importance of securing all three points when his side hosts JKT Tanzania this evening in a crucial NBC Premier League clash at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium, kicking off at 18:15 EAT.

The Msimbazi Reds head into the encounter under pressure to maintain their title push following a dramatic 2-2 draw against arch rivals Young Africans SC over the weekend. With the league entering a decisive phase, any slip up could dent their championship ambitions.

Speaking ahead of the match, Barker acknowledged the quality of the opposition, warning that his team must be at their best to overcome a well-organized JKT Tanzania side.

“We are going to face one of the strongest teams in the league, with a good coach and quality players. It will not be an easy match for us, but we are well prepared to ensure we get a positive result. We will fight hard to secure all three points,” said Barker.

Simba currently sit on 43 points after 20 matches, having registered 12 wins, seven draws, and just one defeat this season. They are level on points with Azam FC, while league leaders Young Africans SC top the table with 48 points from the same number of matches.

Formidable challenge ahead for Simba

Their opponents, JKT Tanzania, are also enjoying a strong campaign and are firmly in contention for a top-four finish, making this fixture even more competitive. The two sides last met in the first round, where Simba edged a 2-1 victory, and the record slightly favors the hosts, who have won their last five encounters.

Despite that advantage, Barker insists past results will count for little against a determined opponent fighting for continental qualification.

Following this match, Simba face a busy schedule with upcoming fixtures against Tanzania Prisons on May 10, before traveling to face Mashujaa FC on May 14 and Coastal Union on May 21.

With the title race tightening, the title challengers will be aiming to return to winning ways and keep the pressure on their rivals, knowing that maximum points are vital in their pursuit of league glory.
