Jephte Kitambala was dragged down in the Namungo penalty area, leading to the awarding of a spot kick in Azam’s favor. Star playmaker Feisal Salum, after a period of heated protests from the visitors, sent goalkeeper Abraham Suleiman the wrong way for the only goal of the match.
For the player popularly known as “Fei Toto”, it is his 10th goal of the season which gives him sole possession of top position in the league’s Golden Boot race.
Ice Cream Makers coach Florent Ibengé was visibly relieved to escape with all three points. “Real tough. Yesterday I told you that this team Namungo is a very good team and they showed it today… They were better than us in the second half with the intention but we didn’t concede and I am happy with that.”
Tanzania’s third team are now level on 43 points with second place Simba SC, who do still have a game in hand on their fellow Dar es Salaam team. Both teams are five points back of league leaders Young Africans.

In the other match played earlier, Fountain Gate edged Coastal Union 3-2 in a duel between two teams fighting relegation. Coastal Union have now been dragged back into a fight to escape the 13th and 14th positions, which would require participation in a relegation playoff.
On Wednesday, Simba and Young Africans will be in action. Yanga will face Kinondoni Municipal Council while Simba host JKT Tanzania.
