AmaZulu FC's head coach Arthur Zwane has lashed out at referees, saying they need to understand that their questionable decisions are costing jobs in South Africa’s Betway Premiership.

The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor said this in reaction to a penalty awarded to Polokwane City, in their come-from-behind 1-1 draw with Usuthu at King Zwelithini Stadium on Friday, May 2.

Zwane said there was minimal contact, which didn't warrant the penalty Lebohang Nkaki converted in the 56th minute. The hosts had gone ahead through Teboho Mashigo’s seventh-minute goal.

“We deserved better, and I can tell you that it was not a penalty, but it is one of those things. Referees are also human beings, but they need to understand that they are costing people their jobs. We cannot just come and understand [them] from the beginning of the season until now,” he told SuperSport Television.

The result sees AmaZulu in sixth place, a point separating them from the seventh-positioned Polokwane City as the Betway Premiership season nears its end.

Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe said he was happy getting a point on the road, as “that shows great mental strength.”
