Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has said his team is anxious to wrap up their Betway Premiership title defence after a 3-0 win over Chippa United on Wednesday.

The Portuguese coach told SuperSport Television that defending and attacking as a unit was key to their victory over Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

"We need to be very solid and be a full team [...] I think the team is very competent in managing important moments of the game."

The latest win saw the Betway Premiership holders inching closer to a title defence, going 12 points clear of second-placed Orlando, but having played two more games than the Buccaneers.

With the championship retention looking like a matter of time, Cardoso admitted that his side wants to wrap up the race and focus on the CAF Champions League final against Pyramids.

“Congratulations to the boys. It was a very tough game. We are anxious for the next [game], then the next one, and try to finish the championship as soon as possible," said the coach.

The hosts earned the maximum points thanks to the goals from Iqraam Rayners, Jayden Adams, and Thapelo Maseko. Recording their 57th goal, they set a new record for the most goals in a single season.

Chippa United coach Thabo September conceded defeat, saying his side got punished for failing to convert their chances. “Football is a game of chances, and if you do not take your chances, you get punished,” he said.
