Burkina Faso’s Stallions have been dealt a blow ahead of their academic 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) away qualifier against Malawi’s Flames on Monday following the announcement of injuries to three key players.

The Fédération Burkinabè de Football (FBF) media office confirmed that defender Edmond Tapsoba, wing-back Issa Kaboré and midfielder Ibrahim Blati Touré will miss the Group L AFCON qualifier in Malawi due to injuries. Kaboré and Tapsoba picked up the injuries during the Stallions' 1-0 loss to group leaders Senegal on Friday.

The BFF says the trio was not part of coach Brama Traore’s 22-member squad which arrived in Lilongwe on Friday ahead of the match against the bottom-placed Flames.

“Edmond Tapsoba, Issa Kaboré and Blati Touré injured are not in the Malawi expedition. Issa Kaboré and Blati Touré will return to their respective clubs. Edmond has returned to Ouagadougou where he has to undergo an MRI that will determine the nature of his injury,” the BFF’s statement reads.

Burkina Faso have booked their place at the AFCON finals whereas Malawi are out of the running, picking up their first point in five games in Thursday’s goalless draw against Burundi. Meanwhile, the Stallions had their first training session in Lilongwe on Saturday at Bingu National Stadium where the game will take place.

The Stallions have 10 points from five games, three behind Senegal. Malawi anchor the table with one point whereas Burundi have four points.
