Carlos Queiroz: Ghana to unveil Portugal manager

The newly appointed head coach of Ghana, Carlos Queiroz will address the media during his unveiling on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra at 1:00pm.

The exercise is expected to bring together members of the media to interact with the Portuguese trainer following his appointment last week.

Carlos Queiroz signed short-term contract

Queiroz, who signed a four-months contract, will use the press conference to share his vision for the team, outline his technical philosophy, and answer questions from the press ahead of this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The unveiling also provides an opportunity to formally introduce the former Portugal national team coach to the Ghanaian public.

Ghana will be making a fifth appearance at the Mundial and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

Carlos Queiroz previous works and experience

The 73-year-old brings in a rich experience to the Ghana squad having managed seven different national teams.

He led South Africa (2002), Portugal (2010) and Iran (2014, 2018, and 2022) to the FIFA World Cup.

The Mozambique born tactician previously coached Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Colombia and Egypt, guiding the Pharaohs to the finals of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations where they lost to Senegal in the finals in Cameroon.

At club level, he has also managed Portugal side, Sporting CP, the New York/New Jersey Metrostars in Major League Soccer and Spanish club Real Madrid.

He also had two spells as Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager at English club Manchester United.

He is however yet to win a major trophy as a head coach of a club or senior team.
