Diomande reacts to possible RB Leipzig exit

Africa’s hottest talent Yan Diomande has responded to reports linking him with a big-money transfer away from RB Leipzig in Germany.

The Ivorian has set the Bundesliga alight with his athleticism, a knack for scoring spectacular goals and fashioning assists.

On Saturday, the 19-year-old was the difference-maker for RB Leipzig. He scored in the 1-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Diomande cannot stop scoring in Bundesliga

The result kept the club in fourth place, 20 points behind Bundesliga runaway leaders Bayern Munich.

Diomande has now registered 11 goals in 28 Bundesliga appearances this season—not bad for the 19-year-old.

Such a form has kept the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations star on the radar of Europe’s top teams.

Some reports have linked the African with a move to Liverpool FC to replace Mohamed Salah. Other Premier League teams such as Manchester United and Chelsea have also emerged in the picture for the hot talent who is contracted to Leipzig until 2030.

Using transfer rumours as motivation

Instead of such transfer talk serving as a distraction to his career, the Ivorian winger told his club’s website that he is using it as a source of motivation.

“It gives me a boost,” said the youngster. “I’m happy here in Leipzig, it’s all going well.”

Having launched his career at Afi Si Komoe academy back home in Ivory Coast before securing a move to DM Academy in America, Diomande admitted that settling down in Germany was not easy.

The former CD Leganes cited cultural difference as one of the challenges he had to adapt to. The Ivorian admitted that he used to get fined for arriving late at Leipzig training ground, but he is now punctual.

“I try to adapt myself to whichever league I’m playing in,” he said. “I struggled with that at first – I was constantly getting fined!”

The rising star was part of the Ivorian side that reached the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter final stage where they lost 3-2 to Egypt.
