Zamalek strengthened their position at the top of the Nile Egyptian League after securing a vital 1-0 victory over Pyramids in Round 3 of the title phase.
Brazilian forward Juan Bezerra scored the only goal of the match, finishing off a brilliant move created by Angolan winger Chico Banza.
The game looked set to end in a goalless draw until the decisive moment arrived late in the match. In the 85th minute, Banza beat Mahmoud Marei on the left flank, drove towards the box, and delivered a low cross that Bezerra converted into the net.
The White Knights nearly doubled their lead in stoppage time when Banza found the net in the 90+1st minute following a cross from Nasser Mansi, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review for offside.
With this result, Zamalek move up to 49 points at the top of the table, extending their lead, while Pyramids remain second with 44 points, level with Al Ahly.
Zamalek will next face ENPPI in Round 4, while Pyramids are set for a crucial clash against Al Ahly on the same day.
Juan Bezerra was named Man of the Match following his decisive performance, receiving the award on the pitch after the final whistle.
