As Uganda Cranes prepare to face Guinea on Tuesday night in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (Group G), memories of their last battle at Namboole linger.
On September 10, 2014, exactly 10 years and six months ago, Geoffrey Massa, now the Cranes’ team manager, delivered a stunning brace to sink Guinea 2-0 in an AFCON 2015 Qualifier under floodlights.
Under the leadership of head coach Micho, Uganda secured an essential win in Group E, with Massa striking in the 21st and 41st minutes, sealing a well-deserved win for the Cranes.
The Cranes controlled the game against their strong opponents Guinea, which featured a young Naby Keita, now a European football star.
A decade later, Uganda, under new head coach Paul Put, aims for another historic triumph.
The stakes are higher, the stage is set under the floodlights, and Cranes will hope to replicate Massa’s heroics and take a big step toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
