Frank Anguissa: Bernard Tchoutang hails mental fortitude of midfielder

Former Cameroon international Bernard Tchoutang, has hailed the mental fortitude of Napoli midfielder Zambo Anguissa.

Zambo-Anguissa, 30, was sidelined with a complicated hamstring injury from November last year through to March 2026, a situation that ruled him out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The former Olympique Marseille midfielder returned to full time action on March 6, substituting Antonio Vergara on the 46th minute during Napoli’s 2-1 home win over Torino.

Tchoutang, 49, who had 42 caps with 10 goals to his credit believes Zambo-Anguissa has shown great character in the face of difficulty.

Zambo-Anguissa returned in March

“An absence of three months is a long time, and it takes time to come back.

“But Zambo Anguissa is very professional, he’s a powerful player, and he’s building up strength.

“His absence has been detrimental to Naples and to the national team because we know his importance on the field.

“When he’s at his best, he can contribute a lot because he has great qualities.

“He’s a very good player, physical and endowed with good technique.

“The question remains whether he’ll see out his contract, knowing that Naples is a Top 5 Italian club and will play in the Champions League again next season, or whether he’ll be tempted by another challenge.”

Zambo-Anguissa has gone on to make three starts with two substitute appearances in Napoli’s last five games as they chase the Serie A title.

Capped 67 times by the Indomitable Lions with five goals under his belt, the former Fulham FC star has a contract with the Naples based club until June 2027.

He has made 16 appearances with four goals and two assist this Serie A season.
